Two thoughts:

1) Dave Daley's piece in the Washington Post is relevant to this convo re how Dems can't actually go tit-for-tat on this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/08/05/redistricting-gerrymandering-texas-democrats-republicans/ .

2) I'm not convinced that taking back the House is the ultimate goal this cycle. We need to do that (if we can) but we need so much more. The House can impeach Trump again...but to what end? They can subpoena people...who can then ignore those orders. They can write a budget (subject to the Senate's support) but Trump can capture those funds (like he did to build a wall) because the courts will let him. In short, we need way more than control of the House.

Nice piece. As Paul Krugman has written recently, Trump has actually passed Orban in the disgustingness department at this point. Orban was something of gradualist: Trump is in a hurry in his quest to stamp out democracy completely in the US.
